About Orientation & Family Connections


Mission Statement

The mission of Orientation and Family Connections is to welcome new students and their family members to the Northern Illinois University community, introduce new students/families to academic and support services, provide the resources and tools needed for student success, and facilitate key relationships necessary for a successful transition.

Our mission is accomplished through dynamic collaborative partnerships with the campus community.

We continue to support family members throughout their student’s experience at NIU through timely communications and Fall Family Weekend.

Our office is committed to the success of our undergraduate student leadership team. We provide high quality training and mentorship to our leaders who aid in fulfillment of our mission and values.


Orientation and Family Connections will provide a comprehensive experience to ensure the successful transition of new students and their families to Northern Illinois University.
