First-year Success Series

Starting college is a big transition, and the First-Year Success Series is here to help! Kicking off during Week of Welcome, this series includes interactive activities, workshops and events designed to support your academic success and help you connect with campus life. Plus, throughout the year, you'll receive reminders, tips and invitations to events to keep you on track and thriving in your first year as a Huskie.

The First-year Success Series can help you:

• Gain study skills and create a plan for academic achievement.
• Find opportunities for involvement and leadership at NIU.
• Chart a path to career success.
• Identify important community and campus resources to help you feel at home in DeKalb and at NIU.
• Develop a greater appreciation for the diverse experiences, personalities and backgrounds of other students, faculty and staff at NIU.
• Understand your responsibilities as a student, and define personal values and goals.
• Learn strategies for incorporating wellness practices into college life and making safe choices in this new environment.
• Meet new friends and learn how to build community.
