First-year Success Series

The First-year Success Series is a collaboration of workshops created to help new students transition to NIU, connect with peers, faculty and staff, and begin to develop strategies for success for your first year and beyond.

The First-year Success Series can help you:

• Gain study skills and create a plan for academic achievement.
• Find opportunities for involvement and leadership at NIU.
• Chart a path to career success.
• Identify important community and campus resources to help you feel at home in DeKalb and at NIU.
• Develop a greater appreciation for the diverse experiences, personalities and backgrounds of other students, faculty and staff at NIU.
• Understand your responsibilities as a student, and define personal values and goals.
• Learn strategies for incorporating wellness practices into college life and making safe choices in this new environment.
• Meet new friends and learn how to build community.
